An integrated data resource for C. elegans and related nematodes

Expression Pattern :

Pattern  In the control worms a slight but distinct label was visible at the anterior and posterior part of the intestine. In beta-naphthoflavone-treated worms the total gut emitted a very strong GFP fluorescence. The label was exclusively restricted to the intestine with the strongest fluorescence in the anterior. The fold increase in comparison to the control worms was at least 10 times. GFP was present in all larval stages as well as in adult worms. Primary Identifier  Expr1683
Remark  After creation of transgenic lines, mixed-staged worms were cultured in the presence or absence of beta-naphthoflavone in the medium. Hence GFP production was followed in vivo depending on the inducer added.

1 Anatomy Terms

Definition Name Synonym Primary Identifier
A chain of very large cuboidal cells forming a wide central lumen in which food arrives from the posterior pharynx, is digested, and from which waste products proceed to the rectum. Intestinal rings form in groups of two and four cells surrounding the common lumen; thus the epithelium is only one cell deep at any point, with neighboring cells firmly secured to their neighbors by apical adherens junctions. These cells have very large nuclei and many large vacuoles, yolk granules, and other inclusions; the latter increase in number and electron density as the animal ages. intestine gut WBbt:0005772
